Hi Sue
Enjoy your blog immensely especially at this time of the year when the snow gets lower on the far away mts.
Thought I would send these from my walk this am. That is Mount Nelson the dominant peak in the Purcell Range west of us, the Rockies are to the east. We live in this valley and although it looks pretty "wintery" I thought I would also send you a picture of the flowers in our downtown area. Both pics taken on my walk this am.
cheers

Hello Sue
We thought we would send this photo of the harvest that is starting to wind down in southern Alberta. Gordon's son took this picture with his daughter-in-law, Melanie, driving the combine.

Hi Sue....
We arrived the other day in our old hometown area of Toledo, OH. While
taking a drive through the "old haunts" we noticed a sign at the Community Park
where we frequently took our kids and grandkids to play that invited us to
attend the "Grand Opening" of the new pickleball courts at the park. Sure
enough, the old, dilapidated tennis and basketball courts had been totally
refurbished and right next to them are two shiny new pickleball courts. So,
today we went over to witness the ribbon cutting. It was a cool, drizzly
morning but there were some interested citizens, including the mayor of the
small Village of Holland, OH (a Toledo suburb) who is a big supporter and player
himself. Palm Creek's own Al Hager and a large contingent of the Toledo
Pickleball Club were there to give a demonstration and a few pointers in the
game, encouraging the residents to be proud of the only dedicated public
pickleball courts in the area and to get involved in the growing sport. Al also
had some equipment to sell to the folks, but the Village has a dozen new paddles
and some balls available for free use. Palm Creek might be a little jealous of
the beautiful shade trees around the courts!

Hi Sue,
Attached are a few pictures taken this morning in northern British Columbia
just after we left the Yukon. We have been to Alaska for a few months and had a
wonderful time. We are now on the downward route towards WA where we will
volunteer host at 2 different State Parks in August and September. Love the sky
pictures you posted recently. Looks like you all are having a fun summer. Bye
for now,
Verna

From Gwen Black
Dear Sue,
I correspond with a group of 6 gals
with whom I attended high school 'way back then'. We all but one live in
Canada. Joy and I grew up together doors apart and experienced the devastation
of prairie flooding in the 1950's when our city was flooded, mosquitoes were
king, and worst of all Polio was an horrifying epidemic.
Joy lives in
Chicago now, and responding to a group email I'd sent enquiring how our Calgary
friend and her family were managing she was embarrassed that she had absolutely
no knowledge of what was happening in southern Alberta. This is all too
common as all of us who spend our winters in PC know. Unless we have satellite
TV, there is little to no news of Canada on TV, Radio or in the
print media, despite the huge numbers of Canadians who visit the U.S. every
year.
So the information which has gone
out on your blog has triggered a snowball effect and folks here are getting
emails from their American friends. It's very heartwarming Sue and it's all because of your amazing and all-encompassing blog. So
thanks for spreading the word. The situation is desperate so if people want
to help, they could contact their local Red Cross.

Notes from our Canadian friends
I wrote to all the Albertans and those in Manitoba that I had email addresses for...to see if they and their homes were safe and secure from all the flooding.
From Orland Nelson:
From Orland Nelson:
From Al and Sheryl Rairdon: Hi Sue, We are good here in Stettler. We have had lots of rain but our house is
dry and safe at this time. Our friends Arnie and Pattie in #704 weren't so
lucky. They live in High River and there house was flooded unfortunately.
From Peter and Virginia Beckner: Hi Sue. We are high and dry here. The floods have been devastating
for a lot of people. We drove past High River yesterday and couldn't believe the
amount of water that is still there. I would think that there are going to be a
lot of people with out a home before this is over. Glad we live a long way away
from the rivers. Take care. Peter & Virginia.
From Bart and Bev Greif: We are high up so we haven't been flooded but we are close enough to the river
that we could watch it as it rose and now has gone down. It's the flooding of
our downtown that no one ever believed could happen that has been so bad. The
Saddledome (our hockey arena ) has water up to the 8th row of seats. It's under
15 ft of water. Our world famous Calgary Stampede is supposed to start on Jul y
5th and the entire stampede grounds have been wiped away. Officials are saying
we are still having it but it may be on a smaller scale. It brings in an awful
lot of money to this area every year with tourists and such. Another small town
about 20 miles south of here have had all 13,000 residents evacuated and they
still can't go back.We see this happening in the US all the time but never
believed it could happen here. Mother Nature at her finest. Thanks for the
concern.

From Rich Cunrod in the Marshall Islands
Readers: Rich Cunrod (I call him Flip Flop because of his home and lifestyle) lives in the beautiful Marshall Islands way out there in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. He recently purchased a park model at Site 934.
From Rich:
Hi there, I certainly do not have to contend with that white snowy stuff. We have finally gotten out of our drought to some extent. We were around 12 inches behind norm and now we are only 6.25 inches behind. Rain is needed for our lens wells. Windy season starting to pick up some and the open ocean is 7-9 foot waves.

from Terry and Jean Turner
We arrived home April 3 and the next day it looked like this. That's not
snow. It's hail. That was followed by a thunderstorm. Then a few days later it
snowed. Then when that was gone...it snowed again. We came home too soon. The
good news is it's nice and warm and sunny now.

From Ron and Sue Bernth in Hudson, Wisconsin
We are really tired of the snow. We left PC on April 15
and after a stay in Omaha, NE to see family arrived in Hudson, WI on the 21st.
Since then we have had 70 degree days (2 to be exact) and have had 2 huge
snowstorms. The first one dropped 7 inches but the latest one on MAY
1 delivered 11 inches. I will send you a pix of the latest storm-its
on my phone and have had all kinds of computer/router issues since we got home.
Where is Don when you need him? There will be no early departures next year!
Take care, Ron and Sue Bernth
