Hi Sue....
We arrived the other day in our old hometown area of Toledo, OH.  While taking a drive through the "old haunts" we noticed a sign at the Community Park where we frequently took our kids and grandkids to play that invited us to attend the "Grand Opening" of the new pickleball courts at the park.  Sure enough, the old, dilapidated tennis and basketball courts had been totally refurbished and right next to them are two shiny new pickleball courts.  So, today we went over to witness the ribbon cutting.  It was a cool, drizzly morning but there were some interested citizens, including the mayor of the small Village of Holland, OH (a Toledo suburb) who is a big supporter and player himself.  Palm Creek's own Al Hager and a large contingent of the Toledo Pickleball Club were there to give a demonstration and a few pointers in the game, encouraging the residents to be proud of the only dedicated public pickleball courts in the area and to get involved in the growing sport.  Al also had some equipment to sell to the folks, but the Village has a dozen new paddles and some balls available for free use.  Palm Creek might be a little jealous of the beautiful shade trees around the courts!

Hi Sue,
Attached are a few pictures taken this morning in northern British Columbia just after we left the Yukon.  We have been to Alaska for a few months and had a wonderful time.  We are now on the downward route towards WA where we will volunteer host at 2 different State Parks in August and September.  Love the sky pictures you posted recently.  Looks like you all are having a fun summer.  Bye for now,

Verna

From Gwen Black

Dear Sue,

I correspond with a group of 6 gals with whom I attended high school 'way back then'.    We all but one live in Canada.  Joy and I grew up together doors apart and experienced the devastation of prairie flooding in the 1950's when our city was flooded,  mosquitoes were king,  and worst of all Polio was an horrifying epidemic.

Joy lives in Chicago now,  and responding to a group email I'd sent enquiring how our Calgary friend and her family were managing she was embarrassed that she had absolutely no knowledge of what was happening in southern Alberta.    This is all too common as all of us who spend our winters in PC know.  Unless we have satellite TV,  there is little to no news of Canada on TV, Radio or in the print media, despite the huge numbers of Canadians who visit the U.S. every year.

So the information which has gone out on your blog has triggered a snowball effect and folks here are getting emails from their American friends.   It's very heartwarming Sue and it's all because of your amazing and all-encompassing blog.  So thanks for spreading the word.    The situation is desperate so if people want to help,  they could contact their local Red Cross.
