Notes from our Canadian friends

I wrote to all the Albertans and those in Manitoba that I had email addresses for...to see if they and their homes were safe and secure from all the flooding.

From Orland Nelson:

From Al and Sheryl Rairdon:  Hi Sue, We are good here in Stettler.  We have had lots of rain but our house is dry and safe at this time.  Our friends Arnie and Pattie in #704 weren't so lucky.  They live in High River and there house was flooded unfortunately.

From Peter and Virginia Beckner:  Hi Sue. We are high and dry here. The floods have been devastating for a lot of people. We drove past High River yesterday and couldn't believe the amount of water that is still there. I would think that there are going to be a lot of people with out a home before this is over. Glad we live a long way away from the rivers. Take care. Peter & Virginia.

From Bart and Bev Greif:  We are high up so we haven't been flooded but we are close enough to the river that we could watch it as it rose and now has gone down. It's the flooding of our downtown that no one ever believed could happen that has been so bad. The Saddledome (our hockey arena ) has water up to the 8th row of seats. It's under 15 ft of water. Our world famous Calgary Stampede is supposed to start on Jul y 5th and the entire stampede grounds have been wiped away. Officials are saying we are still having it but it may be on a smaller scale. It brings in an awful lot of money to this area every year with tourists and such. Another small town about 20 miles south of here have had all 13,000 residents evacuated and they still can't go back.We see this happening in the US all the time but never believed it could happen here. Mother Nature at her finest. Thanks for the concern.

Hi Sue,
Just wanted to thank you for your wonderful blog. Your pictures & videos are fantastic, not to mention what a great word smith you are.
We live in Calgary Alberta Canada. Gordon & I have been coming to palm creek for 4 years & renting on the golf course and each year our stay was getting longer & longer. So we decided it was time to purchase our own place!
We bought 1892 on the 15th hole, on April 1st. So only moved in for 7 days,  needless to say we are anxious to return this fall!

Keep up the great blogging, we love it,
Marilyn Jennings & Gordon McKay

From Linda Steward

Linda Steward traveled back home to visit her sister in ............. Moore, Oklahoma!  She and the family took shelter underground as the tornados struck the area.  Luckily no one in their family was hurt and their house, while damaged, was still standing.
